He used the Aqualog as his reference as well as the book by H. Linke (published by Tetra) and papers that he has collected from various sources over the years. He think that the Aqualog is an invaluable reference in that there is a key to identification of the known betta species by Kai Eric Witte (Feb. 1997).
1. recent paper indicates that B. climacura is synonym for B. akaerensis (H. Tan, Feb1998). 2. Betta macropthalma is a synonym for Betta waseri 3. Betta ocellata is the former B. unimaculata (B. unimaculata is a different species according to H. Tan)
