Shipping Your Fish

Shipping Your Fish

Here's how we do it:

Bettas should have just enough water in the bag to cover their bodies no matter which way they are turned. The rest of the fish bag is air. Rubber band tightly, invert into another bag. This will get rid of any corners and protect in case of leakage. Rubber band the second bag tightly.

We do a water change on the fish we are going to ship the day before doing so. Also we do not feed them the day before shipping. This will minimized the amount of waste produced during transport.

Use the thickest styro shipper you can find, as they will occassionally go through rough handling. We like to wait until temps. are between 60-70 degrees before shipping. Some people use chemical heat pads during cold spells, but we don't do this. Extra space in the shipper should be filled with styro shipping peanuts or newspaper. Everything should be taped up thoroughly and the shipper should be marked LIVE FISH with arrows indicating UP drawn on the sides.

We ship by 3 Day Priority Mail. This has been by far the cheapest way to go, and we have had no problems using this method. Most packages arrive within 2 days, some in one day, others in 3 days. Mail in the morning for the quickest delivery and always in the first part of the week.

Rates are as follows: upto 3 lbs. $3; $1 for each pound therafter.

After receiving our shipments, we recommend that the fish be carefully acclimated to their new water, and fed only lightly their first day at their new home.
